How Simulated Process and 4-Color Process Work
Simulated process printing is one of many screen printing services we offer. It is used when we are reproducing a photographic or a full color image on colored shirts. Using the same opaque ink as our spot color separations, simulated process printing uses halftones, which are tiny dots of various sizes, to give the effect of continuous color shading. Typically a full color image will use 7 to 8 colors. Be sure to use a high quality t-shirt for this type of print.
4-Color Process printing is another of the many screen printing techniques we offer that only uses 4 colors, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. This screen printing process also uses halftones to create a continuous color image, but the ink used in this technique is different then our spot color ink. 4-Color Process ink is translucent which allows the colors to mix on the shirt and create all of the different color values we are trying to achieve. 4-Color Process printing only works well on white shirts, so we tend to print more Simulated Process prints, that way you have much more flexibility in ordering different shirt colors.

What are Halftones?
Using halftones is another screen printing technique we use. Halftones are a gradation of tiny dots that create different color values for each color separation. When screen printed on top of one another, the colors combine to create a continuous color image. Halftones are used in our 4 Color Process and Simulated Process prints.
